The 15th annual Farmers Market Week runs from August 3-9, 2014. If you haven't shopped at your local market yet this summer, this is a great time to check it out! Eating local food can mean eating fresher fruits and vegetables that are riper than you could find at the grocery store and trying innovative products from local farms, like homemade pies and cheeses.

The USDA provides a farmers market search engine so you can find markets near you. Many markets are organized by local governments and take place in public spaces like parks and downtown areas, but space is sometimes also provided in lesser-known locations, such as the parking lots of hospitals and schools.

LocalHarvest also has a national directory of farmers markets that includes 30,000 listings and includes family farms and CSAs along with restaurants and grocery stores that feature local products.
