NYPD Commissioner Bratton has said the subways aren't for sleeping, aiming to keep subway riders awake and vigilant amid a rash of subway crime, but the latest slashing attack was perpetrated by a sleeping passenger!

The homeless man was sleeping across a subway bench when, for some reason, a passenger tried to roust the man awake around 3:15am. The interaction became an argument and the two exited the G Train at Classon Ave station, where the attack took place. The New York Post reports the silly scene that took place after the attack: The attacker fled from the station after slashing the man and headed to the 88th Precinct and claimed that the man was trying to rob him on the subway. Shortly after, the victim came to the same precinct and identified the attacker. Even stranger, the NY Daily News has details of each man's past: Both attacker and victim have prior arrests, the homeless man has served 15 years for an ice pick murder, and was himself slashed last month! So it goes in Slash City.

Monday's early-morning attack brings our Slash Tracker total to 35.
