The NYPD was actively searching the area this morning after a man, believed to be a construction worker, was found fatally shot at an Upper West Side construction site.

Around 7:10am Thursday, police responded to a call that a man had been shot at the new construction near West 59th Street and Eleventh Avenue. The victim was found on the 37th floor of the building with what appeared to be a gunshot to the head. The attacker's whereabouts were not known until police located the suspected gunman on the fifth floor of the under-construction building, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot. Initial indications are that the killer was a former employee at the site, recently laid off.

NYPD tactical units are currently securing the area and the public is advised to avoid 59th Street between Eleventh and Twelfth Avenues.
