An 8-year-old girl suffered lacerations to her head after being struck by falling debris near 35th Ave and 83rd Street in Jackson Heights.

CBS NY described the object as a piece of wooden construction material that was being lowered from a fourth-floor fire escape where renovations were taking place.

Based on eyewitness video, it appears the child was struck while walking in the off-street entrance area of the residential building. Speaking to PIX11, the girl's family says they were leaving to spend the day in the park and as they exited the building, a wood plank fell from construction being done above the entrance, thankfully only grazing the girl and not hitting her directly. Construction workers were lowering the wood via a rope when it slipped.

Buildings at that intersection do not have street-facing fire escapes similar to the one that struck and killed a man in Soho last week
