The Riverdale Press in the Bronx is firebombed damaging their offices on Broadway at West 251st Street as well as two cars parked on the street. The paper had recently published an editorial by Salman Rushdie, but it was difficult to connect the editorial, which had run in many papers, to the bombing of the small newspaper office. Two bookstores in California had also been firebombed and many other stores received letters threatening violence over Rushdie's 'Satanic Verses'.
