David Berkowitz shoots two young women in the Bronx, beginning the Son of Sam murders that would keep NYC on edge for the next year

Donna Lauria and Jody Valenti were sitting in Jody's car outside Donna's home on Buhre Avenue in Westchester Heights in the Bronx just after 1am when Berkowitz approached and shot them, killing Donna instantly and injuring Jody. The shooting would become the first in a string of attacks that lasted through July of the next year, including shootings on the 26 and 30 of July 1977, almost one year to the day after Berkowitz's first attack. Jody Valenti's description of the shooter would become an integral part of the case once Berkowitz was captured in August of 1977 and was found to resemble her description exactly.
