59 years ago on November 9th, 1965

Roger Allen LaPorte sets himself on fire in front of the United Nations building to protest the Vietnam War

He was badly burned over 95% of his body, but would survive until the next day. His death was one of four self-immolations across the country in 1965 protesting the Vietnam War.
