The NYPD stands guard on the morning after NYPD Officer Brian Groves was shot in the Lower East Side’s Seward Park Housing Complex.

In the early hours of Thursday, July 5th, NYPD officers responded to the Seward Park Houses on reports of disorderly individuals and drug dealing in the hallways of the building. At the 22nd floor stairwell, police encountered a suspect holding a revolver, and after running down between the 18th and 19th floors, he turned and fired, hitting Officer Groves in his Kevlar bullet-resistant vest.

There was a heavy police presence at the housing complex on Thursday afternoon, and posters were hanging from city lightpoles asking for the public’s help in apprehending the suspect.

The suspect is still at large, and a $10,000 reward is being offered to anyone providing information that leads to the arrest of the shooter. Police have provided a sketch of the suspect and the public should contact 1-800-577-TIPS or 1-800-COP-SHOT with any info about the shooting.
