The center tube of the Lincoln Tunnel is dedicated with a military parade and ships detonating aerial bombs over the Hudson River

The center tube is the oldest and longest of the three tubes, stretching 8,216 feet between New York and New Jersey. It opened to traffic at 4am on December 22nd and carried 7,661 vehicles within its first 24 hours.
