Cpl Fischer Park
This park honors a New Yorker who enlisted in the United States Army and served in the 75th Joint Assault Signal Company of the Army Air Corps during World War II (1939-1945), Corporal Irwin A. Fischer. The park land is undeveloped and appears to be inaccessible due to a fence around the property, but it adds a nice bit of green to the corner. Nearby Corporal Irwin Fischer Place was previously known as Highbridge Street, Hennessy Place, and briefly James R. Murphy Place.

Finally, a park was opened in this space. Previously, an apartment building occupied this space but was lost during the fires in the late 1970s. My family and I lived in the building from 1964- 1971. The address was 1340 Nelson Ave. A photo can be found in the NYC tax records, from 1940.
