Do you like biking in the city, but hate dodging taxis? For three consecutive Saturdays, the Department of Transportation will clear out the streets and let bikes roam free!

Summer Streets is an annual event where roads are closed to vehicular traffic and people are free to walk and bike along a route from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park.

There’s more to Summer Streets than just getting from one place to another without traffic getting in the way – check out some of these events along the route:

  • Live sand sculpting including lessons and sandboxes to practice in
  • Free bike and rollerblade rentals
  • Rock climbing wall
  • Giveaways, contests, and more!

Check out the activities schedule for times and locations.

As you get closer to Astor Place, be on the lookout for the Flaming Cactus art installation! The light poles around Astor Place have been transformed into urban cacti specially for Summer Streets.

Wake up early on Saturday and stop by any location along Lafayette and Park Ave to enjoy all the Summer Streets activities, programs, and performances!
