Evacuation Day: British troops end their occupation of Manhattan, leaving the city and firing the last shot of the Revolutionary War at crowds gathered on Staten Island

George Washington's troops moved back into the city from their temporary quarters upstate, triumphantly marching the entire length of Manhattan.

In 2016, a street sign was approved to name part of Bowling Green Plaza to honor Evacuation Day.
