"Babe Ruth Day" is held at Yankee Stadium

The record-breaking baseballer was honored in front 58,339 fans. The Great Bambino was in ailing health and his voice was reduced to a raspy whisper, but he would make two more appearances at Yankee Stadium before cancer took his life in 1948 at the age of 53.
